costume-bunnies! ahhh!

Jefferson VS Hamilton
I'm currently watching Jefferson in Paris* (THANKYOUNETFLIX) and it's made me think about Halloween again!  Arrg! hahah.
While I love the uperclass clothing to death, I kind of want to make another French Revolutionary costume.  One that's better then the one I made about five years back that sucked. haha  I think that would be a bit easier to finish before Halloween than my other non-Halloween project.  Plus, I already have the prop.
Hmmmm....

Can you tell I'm itching for another project?  Beside the stays of course.  I'm so used to having at least two things going at once!

Anyway, I've avoided having to buy a new bra by cutting out the wire from another bra that doesn't fit and replacing the broken with it. HUZZAH FOR DIY!  Other than that... uh.. Kipppy broke the mirror I just bought when I came up here.  I went to Safeway.  Oh, my exciting life!

*I've seen it before-  Nick Nolte freaks me out a bit, and the costumes are on the eh side, but ... LAFAYETTE CAMEO>

yay finished projects!

I finished my second knit doll secret project!
Lafayette!!

WHEEE )

He still needs some frilly neckwear and a hat, but I really need to work on my Manatee projects! :D Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to make a wig with my extreme novice knitting skillz.   Anyway, I'm planning on making a whole series of these guys, so be on the lookout!  :D

Oh yeah, all of his clothes come off (and I probably will be making other outfits.  Jeesh, with the fangirling already, right? ahah :D

don't listen to him, he's drunk on cheese!

I just offically finished making all my Christmas presents.  Ahhg, god damn am I glad it's done.  Just a few more hours... and I won't have to hear Christmas music again for a year. Yay. LOL

I got fifty dollars from my Grandpa (whoo) and I decided to put some of that toward the Kannik's Korner cape pattern and materials for the Amadeus cape.   I've kind of put off my next tattoo... indefinitely.  Perhaps I'll see if I can get my mom to go a little bit into it for my  birthday.  It's only a few months away.  I just feel like I really need to be saving up for moving- and I can always get a tattoo in Portland. Hell, you're a freak if you don't  have one up there. hahahah!
Anyway, I'm excited about the cape.  I've never used a Kannik's Korner pattern either, and I'm excited about that too.  I've heard only good reviews.

I started knitting again today.  I watched some videos on www.knittinghelp.com, and was extremely confused.  Apparently the way my mom taught me to cast on is wiggit- whack and not shown in a video.  But once I watched their confusing way of doing it, I remembered how I was orginally taught to me and it all came back.  Thanks for  nothing knitting help. : D  Now I just need to learn how to purl.

Oh yeah and PS, my new Lafayette book is WICKEDAWESOMEOMG.  What can I say, I love the redheaded freak.

PSS.  It smells like snow, even though it's sunny. MAKE UP YOUR MIND, PLANET.

I really need to stop going into the history section at Borders. I really do.

Adopted Son: Washington, Lafayette, and the Friendship that Saved the Revolution

My latest damage ^^

Every single time I venture into the history section, there's a new (or, new to me) book on Lafayette. Jesus Christ, they know I can't resist.  Sooo, I withdraw $20 I shouldn't and buy it. But I don't feel bad, as the check out girl gave me a 20% coupon.  Suck it Amazon.com, you can't beat me with your low prices this time! Bwahahahahaha.

Anyway, I saw it in the last ten minutes of my lunch break and see I only have $18 (not including the money I had to save for tomorrow night's dinner whilst at work), and the book was, listed price, $27. Not bad for a hardback.  Anyway, I busted over to the bank up the way and took out a 20, but didn't have time to actually get back to Borders to buy the damn thing.  I can never keep track of how many breaks you get corresponding to how many hours you work, and I wasn't sure if I was going to get another break to purchase it (there was only one left, and who knows how many other closet Lafayette fans there out in Humboldt County, arg!), so the minute I bust in the front entrance to the store I scream out "I HAVE ANOTHER BREAK, RIGHT?!?!?".
Rachel looks at me.
"MUST BUY BOOK."
So I had another fifteen minute break about two hours later, zip over, purchase it (with coupon, thanks to cashier girl, yay) and come back.  Rachel asked what I bought and I showed her, to which she replies,
"OOOH, Your man!"

Clearly, I talk to much about quote-unquote, my man.

*dies*

So many things coming up

First and foremost, I'll have finished my dress by my goal of the second week in October! I didn't think that I actually would make that goal, but I'm about 7/8ths of the way done with the trim and that's the only thing I have left to do, save hemming.

Then I have my Rockabilly swap, but there are only two things required of that, so I'm half way there with that.

My dad got tickets to the apparently annual Ren Faire ( I didn't even know it existed) for free, and it's pretty much costume required. YAY! right? but bummer is it's NEXT WEEKEND and I don't have any even semi-Renaissance costumes, meaning I'd have a week to make one.  Also, all of my friends have moved, so I'd have to go with my dad, which is fine, since going to that sort of thing alone is lame.  EEP. We'll see how that works out.

There's an embroidery challenge on Craftster that I want to do so badly!
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=199344.0

It's a "Yin and Yang" themed pillow case.  You pick a yin and yang type theme, IE, night and day, or dark/ light ect, and I already have a good idea.
I wanted to do rich and poor, figuring I could work it into a historical angle easily, and I was flipping through one of my Lafayette books looking for a picture of Adrienne and one of the chapter titles was "Notables and 'Not-Ables'".  WHABAM.  Theme picked!  If I can get it drawn out and get my hands on some pillow cases, it should come out awesome.  :D yay.

I found the pattern Tayloropolis used for her lovely cap and though I won't have time to do it for Halloween, I definitley want to order it and make it just because.  hahaha Another thing added to my dream "to-do" list, huh? :D

Last night I bought a book with the money I'd been swearing I wouldnt' spend...

But it's a NEW book about Lafayette! AHHHHHH

I saw it in Borders when I first went into the mall to work and was waiting for my shift to start (I'd been dropped off really early for some reason and had to waste time).  Actually, I just passed by the American Revolution section and saw it and thought of the cover  "hey that's that one painting  that has Lafayette in it", then saw the subtitle.    I squealed on the inside and grabbed it.  I flipped it over and found it to be $29.99. NOOOOOOO.  I had forty dollars in my wallet that's been there since last saturday, but I put the book down, vowing I'd save the money.

Then on my fifteen minute break I went back and stared at it.

Then on my lunch I went back and stared at it again.

Then in the latter part of my lunch I went back and shelled out the money for it.  I couldn't resist.

And I must say I'm pleased with it, though the author does have the birth of his daughter Anastasie on the wrong date, but it's forgiveable, since it's subject is Washington and Lafayette, not just the marquis.

OMG.

I've been keeping 100 bucks in my checking account, afraid to spend it, since I overdrew last payperiod, but I'll have to crack into it for buying supplies for my next swap.  That's okay, I've  just been nervous and not using my card to buy stuff. otherwize, I'd be broke right now.  hahahaha

PS.  If you've just shelled out a large amount of money for a book, don't go onto Amazon.com to find a picture of it, as you will find that said book is approximately $10 cheaper. >.<

DAMN YOU AMAZON.COM

it's okay.

Yesterday was the Scrubs episode that has "Don't Stop Believin'" at the end... and now it's stuck in my head.  I have to find a way to get to Target to get an iTunes card so I can purchase that song.  *shifty eye*

In costume news, i've done one sleeve, after having to take it out and redo it once before, and am in the middle of doing the second chiffon ruffle for the cuff.  chiffon is very difficult to work with, hence my procrastination of it.   ick.

OH YEAH: new layout too, thanks to uknowimprecious expaining it to me. LOL

HOOPS DONE!!!!

my boning arrived! whoo!~

it' only took me about two hours to finish them and i apparently forgot to buy bias tape, so i had to use black stuff i already had, but eh. i don't care.

i'm so happy with how they came out!

they look really lopsided, but they're not. it's just windy outside. lol

WHOOOO!

I'm at the point on my pocket hoop base and inner section where i get to put boning in! now i just need to find the zipper foot...

also, turns out i need to copy the stitching  line on the other side of the side pieces too... but i finally cleaned off the ironing board, so i actually have room to do that without knocking anything over.

not much of an update, but whoo

i've decided to extend the Lafayette celebration through the whole week. hoo yah.

my fabric is in at joanns, only one month and nine days after i ordered it and they said it'd be in in two weeks.   i won't ever special order from them again.  when i worked there, when you took a special order you were supposed to check the warehouse and if it wasn't in, you had to call different stores in your district to see if they had it in stock and get them to send it to your store.  gahhh.  our joanns sucks so much.  i can't wait to go back to the supercenter in Portland.

anyway, then i found out that Denver Fabrics online is shutting down! NO! i was going to order stuff from them in the future! ahhh!

cake!

it actually came out good! i "stenciled" Lafayette on it in sugar sprinkles. it would have been better if i had used a non bumpy frosting, but rainbow chip is soo damn good.

also, the blue gel icing came out blobby since i cut the tube too far up. eh.

YAY! now i don't want to cut into it

YAY! happy birthday!

it's official- i suck at baking.

my cake came out all lopsided, but i think frosting it will make it better. i just hope i have enough. i had to use two round pans, since the rectagular one was occupied. we have so much damn cake right now, it's rediculous.

i have to work today, but not until 3.30, so i'm still figuring out what to do. i want to dress up so bad. if Anthony can dress up as Harry Potter, i can for this. grrr. hahaha

Lafayette B-Day

OMG-

Lafayette's 250th birthday is tomorrow and i have no idea what i'm going to do. Usually i'm about three years too late for big milestones like this, but this year, i'm on the money. I have to work tomorrow (aak), and want to do something to commemorate. Unfortunatley, dressing up is out of the question. I'll probably just end up making a button or something like that. It crept up on me and suddenly -whabam- it's the day before. I've been so caught up in costumes and swaps that i forgot Lafayette! I'm a horrid person. LOL.

UPDATE:

here's the button i made. i'm pretty happy with it.

true to form, i'm out of state for a week, and all i really take pictures of are cats.

oregonian cats do it better )

we spent about four hours drivng around trying to find a Joanns in portland. apparently the address i got off google doesn't exist, since SE OAK was a residental area. grr. anyway, when we found it, it was the most giant Joanns i've ever seen. granted, i've only seen one or two, including my own, which really sucks. like, hard. anyway, this one is only a few months old, so it's brand new, clean and completely stocked. plus it's a Supercenter. we couldn't believe it. words cannot describe.
so i took a picture. lol.

i can't believe this exists )

the best thing? the cutter didn't charge me for the floral ribbon and i didn't realize it until we were out of the neighborhood the store was located in. hooray.
***

on sunday we went to Warped Tour. i thought it would be kind of lame, since there weren't any bands that i knew were playing that i particulary wanted to see, but it turned out it was pretty fun.

most of the bands we saw were not my style, but New Found Glory played and they were good. The first band we saw was As I Lay Dying and boy did they SUCK . oh man were they bad. but i really don't like that kind of music.

but hands down, the best band we saw was Oreskaband, a japanese girl ska band (hence the name ;) ). they were the only band that we saw that was actually dressed, not just in cargo shorts and some lame Hurley t shirt, and they seemed to be generally happy and excited to play.

anyway, they didn't seem to really speak english, but they were great musicians and really knew how to work the crowd. plus the trombonist's horn was pink! lol

5 dollar corndogs )

if you look closely, you can see i was wearing a Green Day heartgrenade necklace and an anchor necklace. ouch.

eh, i don't think there's much more to say. i'm sure i'll think of more and add it later.

and i have to work today, 1:30 to close, which really sucks. grrr.

shoes

here's a picture of those shoes.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

i went into the store to try and see how much they are, but i couldn't find a price tag. they were made in india though, that's all i know. judging from everything else in the store they cost an arm and a leg. i picked up a really geat cloche hat, and it was $300. eeer.

anyway, yeah. that's it. i'm still sick. blah. i have to work on tuesday for EIGHT hours, and i hope i'm better by then.

sick. eh. sick. need shoes. eh.

even though i'm sick and the sudafed i bought didn't work (thanks meth labs), i recieved 'el mucho'. okay i don't know what the hell that means, but eh. i'll list.

1. i had to work, which sucked MOLTO, but i guess you can look at it as more money for Portland. on my lunch i wandered around looking for something to buy since i didn't buy anything at target but an itunes card, and that's really not instantaneous fun. i found a shirt at gottshalks that is light blue and has a cool feather print so i bought it, even though it was a medium. unfortunately, it was 14$. eeh.  i'll make something out of it.

2. before that, we went to michaels and they had their halloween stuff in (!!). they had their feathered vultures again and this year they're only $4.99 instead of $9.99 like last year. so, of course, i picked one up.

3. i got the newest issue of Lucky magazine. i always get it, and am usually (99.9% of the time) very disappointed with it. but this time since it's fall, i actually like a lot of the stuff in it. plus Sarah Michelle Gellar was on the cover (<3 buffy)

4. even though i was bone ass tired (is that a phrase? well it is now) we went to arts alive tonight were i found a copy of the quaterly journal of military history at a book store that used to be a haberdashery. and on the cover? LAFAYETTE! not only is he on the cover, he has a 14 page spread too. hahaha. i was looking for old magazines to cut up, but this is better. hee hee.

5. oh yeah i also picked up a copy of lord of the flies at borders today. the woman who chashiered me asked me if i had read it, and i said yes. then she told me she didn't like it. okay...?

6. i got the bracelet i ordered from a girl on etsy a couple days ago. very cool. i'll post a pic probably tomorrow. here's her shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5101094

OH YEAH> i saw the best shoes ever for my halloween costume (and perhaps everyday life) during arts alive. unfortunately the store was closed, but i'm going to try and go back tomorrow. i will also take a picture of them, since i have to be taking picture for the next swap i'm doing. it's supposed to be taking pictures of your hometown and sending them off, so you can 'get a vacation without ever leaving'. but the organizer let way to many people in (about 70), and she needs a coorginizer, but can't get one or something. so anyway, our partner list is three days over due, and i was planning on sending early, since i'm leaving on the 16th. man i hate people who can't get it together.

long boring post, sorry.

i started embroidering my pocket material yesterday. here's what i have so far:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

close up:

i decided that i'd be Adrienne de Lafayette for halloween, since she was dark haired and i'm dark haired. plus, Marie Antoinette would be the obvious for the costume i'm making, but i'd prefer to be someone else. so anyway, i did the flag since i figured with her husband working for the american cause, she'd be supportive of it. hell if i know if it's accurate. i'm sure it's not, but i don't really care. halloween is fun.

oh yeah, and i had to make the pattern up by combining a redwork pattern i found somewhere (the flag), and the flowers from an 1885 pattern from this site.

http://www.exceedinglycurious.com/ingalls/ingalls1/ingalls1.html

i haven't looked at all the patterns on there, but the ones i've seen look great.

anyway, i plan to add more flowers up the side of this pocket, but on the other one i'm not sure what i'm doing.  i made up her monograms, but i don't know what else i'll do.  we'll see.
borednow
thank god it was only 13 bucks.

i'm only at page 44, but it is so historically inaccurate it's... errg.  i know it's historical fiction, but there should be at least a little bit of historical accruacy. at least get the dates right.

supposedly in 1770, Marie mentions to Louis that they could run away to America, as General Lafayette was looking for volunteers for the revolution.  in 1770, Lafayette was 13, and more over, the revolution didn't start until 1775. puh-lease.  it just jarred me.  even if the date had been in 1775 (Lafayette joined the Americans in 1777, by the way), she wouldn't have even have thought to mention him to her husband. she wouldn't have even noticed him at court.

erg, whatever.  i'm all for historical fiction, but come on. basic facts, people. the Royal Diaries Series' Marie Antoinette Diary was better (ie, better written, more historically accurate) than this and it was meant for children!

damn you.

Better though, i did buy a pair of red plaid TUK heels that i've wanted forever.  with my discount, they were only 22 bucks. hooray!
